Bell labs played a significant role in digital revolution and development of transistors by showing extraordinary willingness to share its knowledge and license to its patents cheaply to others. However, they failed to monetize on their own innovation where others capitalized on their idea significantly advancing their own interest. This could largely be attributed to corporate bureaucracies and leadership flaws.
